The Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) Trainer Institute provides training for educators, program managers, and other professionals responsible for supervising and training infant/toddler care teachers. The PITC Trainer Institute is fully online and delivers a comprehensive study of the PITC philosophy and recommended practices that support high-quality infant and toddler care. The PITC Trainer Institute is jointly conducted by the California Department of Education’s Early Learning & Care Division and WestEd’s Center for Child & Family Studies.
PITC builds capacity to improve high-quality infant and toddler care through intensive and engaging professional development in the following areas:
- Module 1: Social-Emotional Growth & Socialization
- Module 2: Group Care
- Module 3: Learning & Development
- Module 4: Culture, Family, & Providers
- Coaching (optional module)
Schedule:
The PITC Trainer Institute will feature a blend of engaging virtual sessions with faculty and online learning experiences with a community of peers. The Trainer Institute begins with a four-day synchronous launch, followed by 22 weeks of online learning experiences that require about three hours of time commitment per week, and ends with a two-day closing event. While ECE units and CEUs are not available, participants earn professional growth hours. The Trainer Institute is also open to non-California residents.
