What Characteristics of Bullying, Bullying Victims, and Schools Are Associated with Increased Reporting of Bullying to School Officials?
This study, prepared by researchers in WestEd's Learning Innovations Program, tested 51 characteristics of bullying victimization, bullying victims, and bullying victims' schools to determine which were associated with reporting to school officials. It found that 11 characteristics in two categories—bullying victimization and bullying victims—showed a significant association with reporting. The study also notes the high percentage of respondents who experienced bullying but did not report it.

Effects of Problem Based Economics on High School Economics Instruction: Final Report
The primary purpose of this REL West study is to assess student-level impacts of a problem-based instructional approach to high school economics. The study was designed as a within-school randomized controlled trial. Economics is a required course for high school graduation in California and, as of the 2008/09 school year, Arizona, the two study states.

Do States Have Certification Requirements for Preparing General Education Teachers to Teach Students with Disabilities? Experience in the Northeast and Islands Region
This report, prepared by REL Northeast Islands on teacher certification requirements in the Northeast and Islands Region, finds that eight of the nine jurisdictions require some coursework in teaching students with disabilities for initial licensure of general education teachers.

Accommodations for English Language Learner Students: The Effect of Linguistic Modification of Math Test Item Sets
This study found that simplifying the language—or linguistic modification—on standardized math test items made it easier for English language learners to focus on and grasp math concepts, and thus was a more accurate assessment of their math skills.

This newly completed examination of the $1 billion federal Comprehensive School Reform (CSR) Program, conducted by WestEd and its CSR evaluation partner, American Institutes for Research, offers a cautionary tale about the challenges of large-scale school improvement efforts, as well as insights into the non-standardized nature of school improvement.
