Numeracy Education for Adult Learners: A Scan of the Field
Description
The adult numeracy education field is complex, and research in the space is quite limited. This Knowledge Brief is the product of Adult Numeracy in the Digital Era: Adaptive Technology for Quantitative and Digital Literacy (ANDE), a WestEd project funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
The brief provides a comprehensive picture of the adult numeracy education landscape and key factors impacting adult numeracy learning and technology use to inform further research and support the development of an ANDE course and related professional development.
After a section on the process that the research team used in conducting the scan of the field of adult numeracy education, the brief presents the research team’s learning and reflections in the following sections:
- Adult Learners
- Adult Numeracy Instructors
- Classroom and Course Structures
- Policy Structures
Researchers, practitioners, and policymakers can use the information in the brief to help inform further research and improvements to adult numeracy teaching and learning.
