This program profile is part of WestEd’s high-level study of five mathematics programs that build student and teacher confidence, enjoyment, and skill.

This profile presents information on the NBA Math Hoops program for grades 3–8 in after-school and in-school settings. In this collaborative and competitive basketball-themed math board game, students build operations and probability skills by “drafting” NBA and WNBA players. The game also promotes social–emotional competencies by teaching sportsmanship and leadership. The NBA Math Hoops program offers teachers, caregivers, and after-school providers research-based and user-driven insights into how the program may meet their needs.
