Almost Fun Program Profile
Description
This program profile is part of WestEd’s high-level study of five mathematics programs that build student and teacher confidence, enjoyment, and skill.
This profile presents findings on the web-based Almost Fun math program, which provides key skill and problem-solving tools when students need support or practice with a skill or concept. The program was developed to offer culturally responsive SAT preparation support for marginalized students to help reduce student math anxiety.
Almost Fun features a searchable library of self-paced math lessons focused on middle grades and high school content and instructional guides aligned to Common Core State Standards for teachers. Lessons are interactive and use real-world problems to build mathematical thinking, and the program provides a free online forum of real-time peer support.
Key Insights
- Almost Fun students feel less nervous about mathematics after the program, particularly those who described themselves as economically disadvantaged.
