STEMworks at WestEd partners with state education leaders to bring the most effective STEM education programs to hundreds of thousands of students every year. Through its stewardship of a publicly available, online database of STEM education programs, STEMworks helps educators access resources that meet rigorous and results-driven design criteria and improve STEM education nationally.
Building partnerships to expand access to the best STEM programs
Starting in 2014, STEMworks began working with education agencies in Arizona and Iowa, and has since increased its partnerships to include groups in Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada and West Virginia.
STEMworks provides each partner agency with access to its tailored online platform, training, and technical assistance. Partner agencies can also create additional questions that meet their specific priorities. For example, an agency can customize its initiative with its own principles on subjects as diverse as professional development, curriculum, or computer science education. Each agency can also require applicants to prove that they are ready to hit the ground running in that area.
STEMworks also supports program applicants through a coaching initiative called STEMworks Academy. Applicants that do not yet meet the bar for admission to the STEMworks database are invited to participate in one-on-one coaching designed to enhance their ability to communicate their impact and improve their strategic planning.
