Peter Mangione is the Senior Director for Early Childhood Strategic Initiatives and a Senior Managing Director at WestEd. He leads the development of comprehensive training resources for the early childhood workforce, particularly infant and toddler care providers. His contributions played a major role making the Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) a national model for the professional development of early childhood practitioners.
Mangione has worked extensively and published in the fields of child development, early childhood education, public policy, and research, evaluation, and assessment. He has often presented nationally and internationally on early development, education, and care.
Recently, he has led the creation of The PITC Curriculum, which focuses on reflective planning of environments, interactions, and care routines that support the learning of infants and toddlers, and has collaborated with several states in their efforts to develop and update early childhood learning and development standards and assessments. He is currently leading the development of online professional development modules for early childhood educators and care providers of children from birth to age 5.
Mangione received a BA in psychology from Oakland University and an MS and PhD in education and human development from the University of Rochester. He also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Max-Planck-Institute of Psychiatry in Munich, Germany, where he specialized in infant development.
