Melissa Rego is a Research Associate for Science and Engineering. Her areas of expertise include instrument design, such as interview and focus group protocols and surveys; data collection and analysis, especially for qualitative data; and study coordination.
Rego has worked in her research capacity on several large- and small-scale RCT studies including the suite of SimScientists studies, the Integrated Science and Literacy (ISLC) study, and the Amplify Science Middle School (ASMS) study.
Rego is also involved in both a research and coordination capacity in several long-term assessment, curriculum, and Professional Learning projects including the Massachusetts Innovative Assessment, the NASA GLOBE project, Empowering Changemakers: Urban Biodiversity Initiative for Teachers and Youth (ECUITY), and the Holocaust and Genocide Education project for the state of CA. She has served as the Project Manager for several of these studies, including ISLC and ECUITY, managing all aspects of planning and implementation, and participating in instrument development, as well as data collection and analysis. She has been responsible for qualitative analysis for several larger studies such as ISLC and ASMS, as well as smaller short term studies such as the Lighthaus VR and Killer Snails AR studies, and is responsible for basic quantitative analysis for the GLOBE study using Excel. She coordinates the evaluation tasks of the NASA GLOBE program and assists with coordination for the MA Innovative assessment project.
Rego holds an MA in education from Stanford University and a BA in sociology from UC San Diego.
