Kathia Romo Ben Sadok provides support and assistance to schools and districts to improve the instructional practices and educational outcomes for students who are English Learners/Multilingual Learners. She specializes in English Learner support, elementary literacy, and dual language. Romo Ben Sadok affords guidance and support to schools with the implementation of the Common Core State Standards, California’s English Language Arts (ELA)/English Language Development (ELD) Framework, California’s ELD Standards, WIDA Standards, and related state and locally adopted curriculum frameworks.
Her work includes developing professional learning modules on language analysis, academic discourse, and close reading and writing; demonstrating model lessons; and coaching teachers through instructional cycles. She collaborates with site-based and district staff to support planning and instruction to address the academic and linguistic challenges that English Learners/Multilingual Learners face in meeting the ELA and ELD standards.
Prior to joining WestEd, Romo Ben Sadok was an English Learner Support Teacher in the San Diego Unified School District, where she provided professional development and coaching for teachers and provided language instruction for English Learners/Multilingual Learners and newcomers.
Romo Ben Sadok holds a Master’s degree in Collaborative Educational Leadership from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, a Preliminary Administrator’s Credential in California, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, San Diego.
