As a Senior Research Associate with WestEd’s Research-Practice Partnerships team, Karina Jaquet leads studies to improve the practice and policy of education, focusing on English and math interventions and educator effectiveness.
Jaquet is currently the principal investigator for a validation study of a middle school math intervention for students who are African American, Latinx, and/or experiencing poverty. She is also a co-principal investigator on an initial efficacy study of an English curriculum for students who are English learners.
As a member of the Educator and Effectiveness partnership of WestEd’s Regional Educational Laboratory West (REL West), Jaquet provides evidence-based analysis and technical assistance to practitioners. She focuses on policy and program evaluation, data management, and research methodology. She has an extensive background in econometrics, with expertise in experimental and nonexperimental study designs and mixed-methods research. She has presented at numerous education and policy conferences.
Prior to joining WestEd in 2012, Jaquet worked on K–12 education policy research at the Public Policy Institute of California, where she focused on English learners, Common Core State Standards, early childhood and education programs, special education, special education finance, and accountability issues.
Jaquet also worked as a field researcher in Guatemala with a BASIS grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development, and as an outreach specialist for FIRST 5, Santa Clara County (CA).
She holds a BA in economics from the University of California, Davis and an MA in international development economics from the University of San Francisco.
