Johnpaul Lapid is a Senior Research Associate with the English Learner and Migrant Education Services at WestEd. For site and district teams that have large populations of multilingual and English learner students, he assists with the teams’ implementation of English language development standards in tandem with Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Literacy and Math Standards. Lapid provides guidance and support with language analysis, academic discourse, and close reading and writing; demonstrating model lessons; and supporting administrators, coaches, and teachers through planning and instructional rounds.
Many of the schools that Lapid has supported have experienced increased achievement gains for all groups of students, and several have met state and federal accountability measures for the first time.
Prior to joining WestEd in 2001, Lapid was an Adjunct Professor of Education through the University of Guam, where he focused on language and literacy development throughout the Pacific region. Lapid has worked across grade levels in California, Guam, and the Marshall Islands.
He received a bachelor of arts in Early Childhood/Elementary Education and a master’s in education with an emphasis in language and literacy from the University of Guam.
